I wonder had anyone come across this manga, sakigake otoko juku. The story is about a boys school which conduct millitary eductation. The lead character's name not only sound like Jotaro but also looks and behaves like Jotaro. I got a feeling that Araki is inspired by this manga. I highly recommend it to all the Jojo manga

inspired or not, it is good, yes. but the image of the school uniform (the cap, high collar etc) is very common to manga. the 'hard' kids would all do this at school (this is some time back though).

I have the full series of this manga. It was very good at the beginning and middle, but the ending was quite lame.
The injuries in this series is far worse than Jojo, we had a person who had his arm cut off, and the next time this guy came by, he had grown another. . .
But the number of protagonists are great (16 + the teachers + some rookie characters that never got mentioned again after book 11 where the actual journeystarted).
There is a sequel of some sort (Atsukashi! Otoko Juku), but the sequel is quite bad in my opinion.
Anyway, is there anyone translating Sakigake?
I had never came across any site with information on this series.

All characters in this manga are not suppose to have any special power. They are supposedly only have very specialized skills in weaponry. (but the author leaved a lot of plot holes about injuries that most of the times a heavily wounded character up to the point of limb lost would have it completely recovered the next time the character came out).
The fightings are the best in mangas, most battles are one-on-one in some kind of ring, some are two-on-two, and the rest are one-against many. Since they don't have special powers, they usually win by trick (a la Joseph Joestar in Jojo part 2).
So mostly it's a battle of wits.
When the first time I read Jojo part 2, I thought it was a rip off from Sakigake, but maybe it's the other way around. . .

hehheh, I remember this manga, it was so weird and so great at the same time XD I wouldn't really say it's like Jojo though, the tone is a lot, lot lighter and nowhere near as serious. and yeah, some of the injuries are insane, Togashi "died" like... what? 4 times? (and he even got a huge double page lamenting spread for each one if I remember correctly! XD) man, some of the bad guys were so cheesy though, that dude with the trained "killer snow rats" or whatever they were is just great!

It's like how people think that Gatts from Berserk is a rip-off of Cloud from FFVII, but it's probably the other way around (those bakas)
