SURE!
Use a flat surface, a rag/napkin (for the screws) and two phillips head screw drivers, one large, one small (very small).
1. Don't do this ALONE! If it weren't for my roomie giving me help, I would probably still have yet to fix the PS2.
2. Pop the screw covers on the bottom of your PS2 off.
3. Unscrew the cover (read step three before REMOVING the cover), laying out the screws in an orderly fashion so you know where they go when you are ready to put them back in.
4. Remove the cover VERY VERY VERY(!!!) CAREFULLY. The Reset and Eject button are housed in the TOP of the cover. A cheap circuit ribbon housed in sticker paper runs from the Reset/Eject housing to the main PS2. It is very frail/weak and WILL pop out of the main PS2 if you are not careful. My suggestion is one person lifts the cover and the other removes the Reset/Eject housing -with great CARE!
5. Now take a rest and unscrew the memory card shutter from the top of your original PS2 cover and screw it on the Flip Top cover.
6. Being careful not to bump the now loose Reset/Eject housing, unscrew the top of the disc drive with the tiny phillips head screw driver.
7. On the inside of the piece you have just removed, you will see a white disc. Carefully remove this and place it into the top of the Flip Top Covers door.
8. Now, again with great care, take the Reset/Eject housing and place it into the appropriate area of the Flip Top Cover. Make sure that it does NOT dislodge the circuit ribbon from the main PS2!
9. Place the Flip Top Cover onto your PS2.
10. Gently replace the screws into you PS2. See? I told you laying the screws out in a fashionable order was a good idea!
11. Put the DVD(Ps2) or CD (Ps1) swap disc in using the transport tray like normal. At the Insert Disc screen...insert the import game disc through the top (make sure that it is placed correctly) and press X. If the border turns blue- you have a successful game conversion. If the border is red- the game will not work, as some games won't (Fire Pro G was a no go-boo hoo! JOJO's was A-Ok! YAY!!).
I'd like to say that if the Reset/Eject ribbon DOES come out (mine did-plus it may be dislodged but not look it) all is NOT lost. BUT it is a time consuming and precarious ordeal. I will give you the repair instructions should you need them.
After opening my PS2, I've gotta say that mod chips are for techies and Flip Tops are for everyone else. IT'S SCARY IN THERE!!
